Looking Into 2011 First Half Rearview

The first half of the year is now past, a time to reflect on the past six months and refine strategies for a successful second half. From an economic perspective, it seems the U.S. trudged through the first two quarters while showing some signs of improvement. According to reports, bankruptcies are down the first half of 2011 vs 2010, housing is starting to inch upward (dependent on region), yet consumer confidence remains skeptical as Newsweek just reported it’s fallen to a 7-month low. Having said that, how does all of this affect the fitness industry?

You don’t need published data reports to realize, judging by the number of new facility projects and renovations the fitness industry remains resilient, even showing some growth. From a manufacturer’s perspective, Matrix North American equipment sales increased 18% in H1 over prior year - especially satisfying since our growth in 2010 was already an impressive 48% over 2009. While industry growth certainly played a role in our rapid climb, I also believe much can be attributed to customers’ great experiences with Matrix, our innovative products, and our people.

What are your strategies for the second half of 2011? With signs of growth within the industry, are you becoming more bullish and updating or adding a new facility? Many of our customers look at the summer months as a time to maximize retention and get their facility into top condition in preparation for the typically busier fall/winter new membership rush. For those of you who’d like to get a jump on your competition in H2, Matrix is now offering a leasing special on all cardio and strength equipment! We’ll continue to offer the special rates through the summer months until the end of August.

The next time you see me or your local Matrix sales representative, please ask about our complete lineup of innovative equipment backed by unmatched service assurance. Here’s to a successful second half of 2011.

In Health,
Kent

Matrix Strength - Ergonomically Sophisticated

Matrix pioneered the use of oversized tubular construction with our strength equipment; providing a premium, sophisticated look on machines previously known for their blunt aesthetics and bulky presence. Appealing design wasn’t the only focus while developing the Matrix G3 and G7 series, however. We wanted to make strength equipment that not only looked great on a facility’s floor, but provided a premium, natural feel that accurately matched the body’s movements.

Not satisfied with simply matching the movement of an average-sized user, we wanted strength equipment that could accommodate nearly all user sizes. Our R & D team was tasked with ensuring each strength product would comfortably fit users ranging in height from 5’1” (2.5 percentile female) to 6’4” (95 percentile male). During early prototype phases, user groups with participants meeting these standards were asked to test each machine’s ergonomics, including: exercise path of motion, seat placement, and all user touch points. Feedback was collected and revisions were made until each user in the test group was satisfied before moving onto the next phase of the development process.

The end result - over 85 strength pieces built with aesthetic distinction for maximum visual impact. Every piece engineered to match the natural, fluid movement of each user, no matter their size.
